This list is compiled of my favorite exercises that can help most people no matter what their goals are. These movements can be done at home or with minimal equipment. This is great starting point to kick off a new fitness journey.
Glute Bridges - One of the absolute best and most underutilized exercises you can use to build core stability and glute strength. Two major benefits are these are super helpful in teaching your body to move in the correct way for countless other exercises and they are great for those of you (like myself) with cranky knees.
Bodyweight Squat - An exercise that translates so well to everyday functions like something as simple as sitting down and getting up from your chair. This is another move that will prepare you for more strength-training moves like deadlifts (😊).
Lunges - Another simple but powerful move that will help you, not only with balance and coordination, but strengthens just about every lower body muscle, especially everyone's favorite - glutes 🍑. Lunging is also great for helping in preventing injuries.
Planks - Want to slow down time? Add these beauties to your workout. Planks will help your posture, work your core, and protect you from injuries!
Bird Dogs - A great exercise that targets a huge range of muscles, improves spinal and core stability, and strengthens your back. You're beginning to see a theme here, right?
Push-Ups - I'm sure most people are familiar with these and that's because you can do them anywhere and they work several muscles. Chest, arms, abs, lower back, and even parts of your legs! They are also great for protecting your shoulders and back (seems pretty important). There are also tons of great variations to do once you master the basic push-up.
Bent-Over-Rows - With these you're targeting your back muscles (Middle, upper, and lower) and you're also working your shoulders, hamstrings, and glutes! Add this to the list of exercises that you can add to your routine that help prevent injuries - Think shoulder and core stabilization.
Seated Trunk Rotations - No list of great basic exercises would be complete without a rotating movement. A simple move that many people are taught at a young age but is often neglected. Benefits include strengthening your core, improving your back's rotation abilities, and increased flexibility. These are great for those of you who do pretty much anything athletic including all swinging/throwing sports and my favorite, golf.
Runner-Ups - Pull-ups, bicep curls, deadlifts, push-presses, step-ups, and lateral raises.
